INTRODUCTION

A simple, effective treatment to strengthen pelvic floor muscles

Using electromagnetic pulses to stimulate muscles in the pelvic floor region, the Ultra Tesla Seat is a remarkable and effective treatment for people with incontinence issues.

Pelvic floor muscles can weaken for a number of reasons, including pregnancy, childbirth, obesity and the straining caused by constipation. The results of this weakening can include decreased bladder control, pain in the lower back and decreased sexual satisfaction – all symptoms which can be improved by taking action to strengthen these important muscles.

The Ultra Tesla Seat applies targeted low-frequency, high-intensity electromagnetism to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles into contracting repeatedly over a 28 minute session. This stimulation, likened to doing around 19,000 Kegel exercises, helps the muscles regain strength, and helps the patient regain control.

The treatment is non-surgical and non-invasive – in fact patients don’t even need to take any clothes off, as the entire treatment takes place while sitting comfortably in the Ultra Tesla Seat.

The nature of the technology also means that only the relevant muscles are stimulated by the electromagnetic field, with other muscles and internal organs left unaffected. And the quick 28 minute sessions and absence of any downtime, makes the treatment easy to fit in your schedule.

The effects of the Ultra Tesla Seat are seen after around six sessions, with 95% of patients reporting major life improvements thanks to their newly increased pelvic muscle strength.

“I was sceptical at first, but I am so happy that I decided to give the Ultra Tesla Seat a go.
I’ve never had to cross my legs when I sneeze or laugh since!”

Read our FAQs about Stress Urinary Incontinence and the Ultra Tesla Seat treatment

What can the Ultra Tesla Seat be used to treat?

The Ultra Tesla Seat can treat a number of medical issues including:

  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Weakness in the pelvic floor, leading lack of support for the urogenital organ system (the organs controlling reproduction and urination functions)
  • Pain in the lower back area
  • Reduced sexual function, sensation and satisfaction in women
  • Erectile dysfunction in men

The Women’s Clinic primarily treats women’s intimate health issues but we are able to use the Ultra Tesla Seat for all of these concerns, including male erectile dysfunction.

How widespread is stress urinary incontinence amongst women?

It’s estimated that approximately 200 million people around the world suffer from some form of Urinary Incontinence (the unintentional and accidental loss of urine).

Of these, the majority are adult females, and the most common form is stress incontinence, affecting around 50% of people with UI. Stress incontinence is defined by the International Continence Society as “the complaint of involuntary leakage on effort or exertion, or on sneezing or coughing“. Approximately 1 in 3 women will experience some form of stress incontinence during their lifetime.

Other forms of UI include urge incontinence (approx 20%) and mixed incontinence (approx 30%), but the Ultra Tesla Seat is designed for and targeted at stress incontinence.

Please contact us to discuss treatments for other types of incontinence.

What are the causes of urinary stress incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence is known to have a number of causes, including:

  • Menopause
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Hormonal deficiency
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Excess consumption of caffeine and/or alcohol
  • High-impact activities over years
  • Chronic coughing or sneezing
  • The effects of aging, and particularly the natural loss of collagen
Don’t I need surgery to fix urinary stress incontinence?

Surgical interventions to treat stress urinary incontinence, such as the sling procedure, can improve closure of the sphincter or support the bladder neck. However this is invasive surgery and rarely performed.

In recent years new and highly effective non-surgical options have become available, such as the Ultra Tesla Seat.

The Ultra Tesla Seat is ideally suited for women with mild to moderate SUI, who do not want a more invasive and risky surgical procedure or who cannot have surgery.

Is Ultra Tesla Seat treatment safe?

The Ultra Tesla Seat is a very safe and non-invasive treatment method but as with any treatment there are some patients for whom it will not be suitable. These include:

  • Patients who have or use any of the following:
    • Cardiac pacemakers
    • Implanted defibrillators or implanted neurostimulators
    • Electronic implants
    • Pulmonary insufficiency
    • Metal implants, rods, pins, plates, metal IUD or orthopaedic implants/joints
    • Drug pumps
    • Malignant tumour
    • Fever
    • Skin which lacks normal sensation
    • Scars, open lesions and wounds in the area of the groin
    • Injured or otherwise impaired muscles
    • Unrepaired abdominal hernia or history of hernia
  • Patients who are:
    • Pregnant
    • Breastfeeding

Please contact us to discuss whether the Ultra Tesla Seat will be suitable and safe for your own situation.

Does Ultra Tesla Seat treatment hurt?

No, Ultra Tesla Seat treatment is not painful at all, and no anaesthetic is needed. Patients sit comfortably (and fully clothed!) on the seat for 28 minutes and are able to leave immediately after the treatment session ends with no downtime.

How long does Ultra Tesla Seat treatment take and how often will I need it?

Each Ultra Tesla Seat treatment lasts for 28 minutes. We recommend a course of 6 treatments to get the maximal benefit from the seat, although patients are free to book treatments individually should they wish to have more or fewer than 6 treatment sessions.

What if I need the toilet during Ultra Tesla Seat treatment?

We will always encourage patients to use the clinic toilet prior to using the Ultra Tesla Seat, so that this issue does not arise.

How long will the effects of Ultra Tesla Seat treatment last?

The effects of Ultra Tesla Seat treatment should last for around 6 to 12 months.

Do I need a referral from my GP to get Ultra Tesla Seat treatment?

No GP referral is necessary, and the Ultra Tesla Seat treatment is available for anyone to book if they have been experiencing any of the issues detailed above, such as incontinence, lower back pain, loss of sexual sensation or erectile dysfunction.
